In June of 2012, the Alliance held a “Summit” to get member feedback regarding the impending changes in the State Report Card and possible alternative “Quality Reports” that could be tailored to the priorities expressed by taxpayers and parents within a particular district.

Shortly thereafter, a number of school districts in Hamilton and nearby counties, including most Alliance districts in the area, began working on a template of various rating factors that could be used by districts to design a self-evaluation format that reflects the priorities of the community as determined by the input of concerned citizens. Those priorities are then used to produce a comprehensive report for constituents that, unlike the State Report Card which relies almost exclusively on test results, also evaluates the performance of the district in such areas as opportunities provided, scholarships and other honors won, arts offerings, AP offerings, extra-curricular programming and other areas of expectation, in addition to academic performance as determined by test results. Pilot “Quality Reports” have been adopted by several participating school districts and are scheduled for release in early August.

The Alliance is also participating in a new statewide opinion survey, to be conducted in September, seeking information regarding public attitudes toward state report cards and other forms of district evaluation. The Alliance is submitting several questions to be included in that survey, the results of which will be available by October 1.

In order to further pursue the organization’s desire to provide member district constituents a comprehensive, and accurate, evaluation of district performance based upon the community’s own priorities, the Executive Committee has scheduled a second “Summit” to review the results and community reaction to the first “Quality Reports” and to discuss the information generated by the statewide survey.

Please join us at 9:30 a.m. on October 9th in the OSBA conference room. Feel free to invite board members, as well as members of your administrative staff if you would like. Please register below. If you have any questions, please call the Alliance Office at (614) 824-2273.
