The Alliance strives always to effectively address its three basic priorities: representing its member district’s interests before the General Assembly, with the current Administration and with the Ohio Department of Education; encouraging member involvement in the development of legislative initiatives and policy positions; and effectively communicating important developments and critical data through frequent Alliance News Flashes, Executive Committee meeting minutes, regular regional meetings and the Annual Membership Meeting at the OSBA Capital Conference. The Executive Committee meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month except for at least one month in the summer, and the Legislative / System Improvements Committee meets regularly on second Wednesdays.
The Alliance has been an energetic and consistent participant in the Education Consortium (consisting of 16 education organizations) from its inception, including the Consortium’s development of a proposed constitutional amendment, during its subsequent interaction with the Strickland and Kasich Administrations as they labored to develop new comprehensive school funding proposals, and with legislators and the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) as they pursued various changes to school funding and school operating policy. All the while, the Alliance maintained its vigilant attention to Alliance member districts’ concerns such as TPP replacement revenues, AYP and the Ohio Report Card, insufficient state assistance, phantom revenue, ballot fatigue and other ongoing issues.
